ENTROPY PRINCIPLE: DS ≥ 0 – Tuesday, 6th June 2023 – Seminar by Rinaldo Rui and Tommaso Luzzati

150 years from its first formulation, Entropy is still object of discussion. What is Entropy? Is it a measure of useful Energy? An amount of "order"/"disorder"? A probabilistic concept? We know for sure that in order to reduce their impact on the environment, we must try to make all transformations in a reversible way. It means to produce items that must be totally reciclable. But since reversibility in nature is impossible, then we are left with only one option: try to minimize such impact.

COSTRUIRE UNA CAMPAGNA PER IL CAMBIAMENTO SOCIALE – Tina Marinari – Mercoledì, 3 maggio 2023

SESAME (Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science And Applications in the Middle East) is an international multidisciplinary research laboratory based on a synchrotron light source, whose headquarters are in Jordan. After a general introduction to the properties and applications of synchrotron light, I will describe the genesis of the SESAME project as well as the path taken by this scientific cooperation project and its establishment as an open space for collaboration between countries, especially in the Middle East but not only, having serious difficulties in meeting on common ground, thus representing both an important resource and science and an opportunity for dialogue between peoples.
